Full product insight
Based on real customer feedback, dietary reviews, and pet-parent testimonials, here is an objective insight into the Open Farm Air-Dried Surf & Turf Recipe (1 lb Bag):🌟 What Customers LoveHigh-Value "Super Topper": Pet parents on Reddit note that this formula is a game changer for picky eaters. The blend of Ocean Wise-approved wild-caught salmon and certified humane beef creates an aroma and flavor dogs can rarely resist.Soft, Jerky-Like Texture: Reviewers love that the pieces are pliable and dense rather than hard or crumbly.
They are easy to break apart into tiny pieces, making them highly effective as high-protein, bone broth-infused training treats that won't disintegrate in your pocket. No Legumes or Cheap Fillers: Unlike many grain-free foods that swap grains for peas, lentils, or potatoes, this recipe is entirely legume-free and grain-free.
It focuses heavily on 90% real meat, organs, and fish, which is highly appreciated by owners managing strict dog allergies.100% Traceable Sourcing: Clean-label advocates appreciate that you can enter the lot number on the back of the bag to see exactly which farm or fishery provided the salmon and beef.⚠️ Common Customer ComplaintsThe "Micro Bag" Shock: By far the most common complaint on Amazon CA is the bag size. Retailing at around $39.99 CAD for a tiny 1 lb (approx.
454 g) bag, customers note it is visually shocking how small the bag is when it arrives in the mail.Tummy Troubles for Sedentary Dogs: Independent analysis from Dog Food Advisor points out that because air-dried formulas mimic a pure raw diet, they are incredibly dense in protein and fat. Reviewers on Reddit mention that if it's introduced too fast or fed to less active dogs, it can easily lead to rich-food diarrhea or rapid weight gain.Crumbly Bottom Dust: While the pieces are generally soft and jerky-like, some buyers report that the friction during shipping turns the bottom 10% of the bag into fine powder.
Fortunately, most users resolve this by pouring the dust over kibble as a savory gravy seasoning.📋 Direct Product ComparisonOpen Farm Air-Dried Surf & TurfPremium Commercial KibbleMeat & Organ Inclusion90% Wild Salmon & Grass-Fed BeefMeat & Organ InclusionUsually 20%–40% average meat contentMoisture & PalatabilityInfused with real bone brothMoisture & PalatabilityEntirely dry; relies on sprayed fats for flavorBinder Ingredients0% Grains, Peas, Potatoes, or GlycerinBinder IngredientsRelies on starches (peas/corn) to hold shapeBest Practical Use CaseLuxury meal topper or premium training treatBest Practical Use CaseEconomical everyday full-bowl feeding👨⚖️ Final VerdictA flawless, ethically sourced meal topper, but financially impossible as a standalone diet.Open Farm Air-Dried Surf & Turf is a spectacular, ultra-premium food choice.
If your dog suffers from a sensitive stomach, lacks an appetite, or has allergies to chicken and grains, the pure 90% meat-and-broth profile is phenomenal for their vitality. However, paying $40 CAD for a single pound of food makes feeding it as a full meal entirely impractical for anything larger than a toy-breed puppy. The best strategy from real pet parents is to buy the 1 lb bag to use strictly as a flavor enhancer mixed into their regular kibble.
